Fun jobs that pay well uk Those same people appear in this book as contributors of memorable anecdotes For me reading their stories has been a hoot There s the one about an observer going up in a high altitude test flight and giving ambiguous hand signals Thinking he was giving the OK sign they kept going higher but actually he d meant to convey that his mask was getting zero oxygen Easier to understand the plight of the guy working on the top secret Atlas program who d been forbidden even to utter the word Atlas when away from the job Therefore when he wanted to buy Atlas tires for his car he could only point and say I want those. Fun jobs for teens at the spunky gal who refused to back down when a supervisor directed her to remove a pin that said F___ COMMUNISM I stood up and asked Are you a Communist That made him mad and again he told me to take it off getting pretty loud By then there must have been a hundred engineers looking at us I said No it s my First Amendment right to wear it Del turned around and started to walk away yelling over his shoulder You take it off or you will be fired As he walked down the aisle I pointed at his retreating back and shouted That man is a Communist Now the whole floor was watching and laughing I wore the badge for the rest of the day. Fun on the jobz inc Some of these anecdotes I actually remember such as one recounted here by a technical editor I used to know The company had assembled a bunch of workers for a group photo that was destined for the company s Annual Report When our betters saw the photos they exclaimed My god we can t use these The workers look like a bunch of druggies and drunks Never mind that these guys were the real deal Reshoot the picture and get some people who look credible Consequently somewhat presentable employees were pulled from a handy office and given hard hats and smocks to wear They weren t the people who actually assembled the product but hopefully they made the right impression for the shareholders.
