Trent: A Light Tragedy with Music By Dino Stamatopoulos
Trentz rohwedder
This will be my first ever zero given to a book and this one really deserves it The innovative approach of combining a musical score to be played at key moments in the graphic novel is impressive I have only encountered one other graphic novel that had an accompanying score and that was Gord Downie s Secret Path but that was not synced in any way with the actual contents of the graphic novel story as this is The art is also fine here. Trentmann However the story is so incredibly awful a musical comedy about neglectfully killing a baby It just continuously gets so distasteful and not the least bit funny and I m hard to offend with dark and or inappropriate humour 0692810307 My emotions are all over the place right now and I dont know how long they will be like this Dino has so much heart that bleeds into the music and pages of this book I will be processing this for a good while 0692810307 This book is definitely not for everyone The humor is very dark and deals with a death of a child I can see how some will be deeply deeply disturbed by this However if you take it on a deeper level it shows how scary fatherhood can be It is an interesting premise but I would proceed with caution 0692810307 Light tragedy with music is a fairly apt description of Trent Bob and Doris bring home a new baby only to find that it dies rather quickly after arriving home and the two of them choose to cope with this development by turning to musical theater The book comes with a downloadable soundtrack which I missed but it works okay on its own it is definitely for folks with a dark offbeat sense of humor It s a little shaky as a standalone graphic novel but I m guessing that with the accompanying soundtrack it works much better. Trentmann bremen It did pique my interest in the other creative ventures of Dino Stamatopoulus though He s perhaps most notably Starburns in Community if you didn t already know I received access to this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review 0692810307 The illustrations in this book are well executed but I didn t even give the musical component a listen because I did not find the narrative handled the delicate subject matter with sensitivity much less humor or nuance In the face of devastating tragedy these characters respond in a manner that is not humane or even slightly realistic One could argue this is for the sake of creating jokes along the way or building into some sort of larger concept but it just doesn t work at all It s a shame because I could tell a lot of work went into this project and it had a lot people with many accolades who clearly cared about the project working on it but I only found myself despising all the characters and sickened by the story in general I cannot in good faith recommend this graphic novel 0692810307 Trent is a light tragedy with music about the dangers of Hope and the delusions of Love When Bob and Doris lose their baby boy Trent to a foolish mistake they fall back on the old optimism of the classic musical Singing their pain away and defying their doubts their love of Trent teaches them that just because someone is gone it doesn t mean you stop loving them Written by Dino Stamatopoulos the writer and actor who immortalized Starburns on Community and illustrated by Leah Tiscione with a complete free downloadable soundtrack featuring the singing voices of Scott Adsit Britta Phillips and Jay Johnston bathe in the glory that is the graphic novel that launched Starburns Industries into comics TRENT is a special book for special people It s probably not for you Trent A Light Tragedy with MusicTo be honest I m not entirely sure what I was expecting from this book The description said that this is the story of a couple whose child dies in an accident and what they do next to help themselves move on I suppose I was expecting something poignant and heartfelt but instead I was assaulted with a nasty piece of work. EPub trent I had my misgivings from the introduction which was laced with profanities but since it was not written by the book s author I thought it might be okay to keep going But the book itself was no better The opening scene is of a pregnant couple the wife desperate to get her husband to feel the kicking baby in her stomach but he claims he can feel nothing and straight up tells her that he wishes the child was dead inside of her Wow The story goes on and the baby Trent is born His father still struggles to connect with him in fact struggle perhaps is not the right word since it is obvious that he doesn t even want to have a connection He couldn t care less Finally in order to get some peace and quiet he decides to go for a walk and for some reason takes baby Trent with him into the freezing winter air It s no surprise when the baby dies but I was shocked by how little reaction this generated from the characters involved. Kindle trendyol The story must have once been a musical because periodically the black and white illustrations are broken up with bright colors and song lyrics Instead of lightening the mood however these songs just left me sick as each little ditty was about something horrible like I love your baby but I really hope it s dead or Oh well the baby died but we ll figure out how to tell the wife later you know how women are A disturbing and disgusting book Would not recommend 0692810307 lmao I hated it 0692810307 Most definitely not fit for everyone s sense of humor but conceptually an interesting idea and for fans of Moral Orel and Community you ll definitely walk away from this saying Ugh Starburns wrote this 0692810307 No. Trentz rohwedder Not my type of humor I could tell from the first page that I would not like it when a husband was telling a wife that he could not feel the baby kick and thought he was dead and didn t care if he was dead The pain this would put a pregnant woman through is beyond anything I could explain Any mother who reads this or any parent that has been involved in their child s life from the beginning would cringe at this sort of talk. Trent kingery effingham il This was apparently a comedy sketch before it became a graphic novel And according to the afterward there is a message in the story but to me Bob the father was loathsome all the way through so if there is redemption I wasn t going to give it to him. Trentz rohwedder Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review 0692810307 I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review Maybe my idea of comedy isn t dark enough for this This was deeply disturbing and I m not sure how I finished it The death of a child is a seriously emotional and painful thing to handle and for the parents who have gone through this experience this kind of book is a slap in the face and a total mockery of their pain and suffering 1 Star only because 0 isn t an option 0692810307
