The Other Middle East: An Anthology of Modern Levantine Literature By Franck Salameh

The other middle eastkings book

A really good overview I mostly enjoyed with two tiny pocket sized quibbles 1 a lot of information and many direct quotes get repeated between chapters and footnotes which makes sense if the editor was expecting the book to be used as a textbook skipping back and forth but for someone like me who just read it straight through that did get tiring and 2 he will insist on using the term Judeo Christian despite spending the entirety of the collection talking about the differences in culture and outlook between Jews and Christians and in fact explicitly saying that Judaism and Islam have far in common with each other than Judaism and Christianity. Book the other middle east pdf I have a grudge against the term Judeo Christian to begin with seeing as it s incomplete what common elements do Judaism and Christianity share that their fellow Abrahamic religion doesn t the exclusion of Islam is often just prejudice used as a way to legitimize things that are exclusively Christian by pretending they apply to Judaism as well and has somehow become a popular enough phrase that people use it without really thinking about it even somehow in a book like this where the editor has otherwise clearly thought very deeply about any number of things 9780300204445
