Gripping storyIt s been awhile that an author managed to thrill me so thoroughly with a story You had a seamless blend of SciFi shifters romance drama and heartbreaking tragedies Rei is a soldier who by accident is released from his slave collar He uses this opportunity to escape and crashes on our planet in rural America Sarah rescues him and tries to help him get back on his feet to get off our planet before the men in black or his slavers can find him The chemistry is real and sure you the romance but I m taking the humanity and compassion and friendship and humility shown by Sarah her dad and Rei was fantastically portrayed You will not be disappointed by this book Kindle Edition Yay an excellent SFR book I really liked the world that the author created and look forward to the rest of the series This is a meatier book than some of the other SFR I ve read through Kindle Unlimited so I had to adjust my expectations at first but once I realized this wasn t going to be a quick sexy romp I settled in and became absorbed in the story At first I wasn t sure that Sarah and Rei could have a happy ending since they come from such different worlds and Sarah especially has a commitment to her father and to a lesser degree to her education Rei didn t have a lot to go back to but staying on Earth seemed impossible given the need for him to stay hidden and the level of investigation his arrival created Of course we do get a happy ending for our lead couple though I m very interested to see what happens to them next Spoilers ahead But since their happy ending involves leaving Earth it s not totally hearts and roses When Sarah and her dad are talking about her leaving and then when her dad is making all of her favorite treats I was definitely crying The two of them had such a great relationship and you could see how torn Sarah was about leaving and how Gary knew that he had to encourage her to take this chance In my head Gary is doing fine getting a bit mobile loving his new puppy and getting back into small town social life And I hope that Sarah and Rei are able to help the Homeland Security agent and get her back to Earth and reunited with her husband Kindle Edition About Goodreads 3. Metal wolf chaos ebay 25 stars I owe Lauren Esker an apology for not getting at this story sooner As you can see from my shelves I received the file as an ARC direct from the author but I neglected to get at it until now I kind of owe myself an apology too because I wasn t sure I d like it as much as her UF PNR the reason I didn t start it right away which allowed the file to get buried yet as it turns out I definitely did Both leads and the heroine s father are well developed likable characters with their own strengths and griefs and though the romance happened quickly I found it believable especially since Sarah was always fascinated by space though there s one early scene of Sarah that well I put the book in both my space opera and near future now SF sub shelves because while it starts mid space battle most of the book takes place in contemporary rural Wisconsin As the protagonists worked together trying to hide Rei and to get him back into space where he felt like he abandoned his last surviving beloved friend the growth of understanding was natural Neither side was portrayed as annoyingly stupid about the other culture though Sarah did have to face a few realities that her own peaceful upbringing had allowed her to be na ve about considering she knew he was raised to be a warrior The language barrier was addressed using future tech but not as an instant fix I think the broken English translations during the process were done well I m eager to see of the Galatean Empire and its other modified human races starting with Metal Dragon coming later this year but not yet in GR s database. Metal wolf collar This was an alright story it didn t overwhelm me with excitement or keep me glued to the iPad or leave me gushing over how wonderful the story was sort of read It was good enough to make it thru the book without wanting to give up quit good enough to make me consider reading the next book in the series The flow felt a bit slow over all with a few places that really dragged a long There is an odd dynamic with Sarah s father Sarah Rei I think I liked the father Gary the best of the 3 characters The back forth inner dialogue with Sarah s angst over giving up everything her dreams for her father the farm wanting to go into outer space was tiring I really didn t see a relationship develop between Sarah Rei it was super fast within weeks that she seems head over heels for him though they never actually say they love each other They also can t really communicate for about a week I think the sex was awkward too early into the story which felt like it took away from the developing relationship between them made it seem about the physical side of the relationship instead of falling in love But for her to even think of leaving earth with him so quickly leave behind her father with a disability to run a farm was pretty hard concept for me to wrap my brain around Spoiler The part that hurt the story for me the most was the government guys Men in Black cooperating with the aliens coming after Rei when there were only 8 of those bad aliens That just seemed too far fetched for me Or those Men in Black not pursuing Gary after Rei Sarah leave for answers after they loose an agent Kindle Edition Sarah Metzger an aspiring astrophysicist watches a UFO crash land one evening She rescues the pilot an alien wolf shifter and runaway slave named Rei Love blossoms while he tries to find a way back to his world Then the slave masters come looking for himThis was a good solid read The beginning started strong The middle dragged a bit but I forged on and was glad I did because the exciting ending was worth it. Metal wolf rev 5 starsMetal Wolf is a slower paced descriptive and character driven sci fi that takes place mostly on Earth It starts with Rei H in a battle since he s a slave forced to fight for the dominant empire Due to a malfunction in the collar that controls him he s able to escape unexpectedly and he crash lands on Earth where he s rescued by Sarah h The majority of the story is then focused on working through communication issues their budding relationship the question of whether Rei can return to space to look for his surviving friend and the danger of the empire pursuing him for desertion The story is written in third person POVs from H h and h s father No ow om drama H is a virgin technically there was some training with robots and h is not bc discussed Sarah and Rei are both sweet and good hearted characters While he looks alieny his people are human based with some enhancements so share many physical characteristics and some cultural ones The world building of the empire as a whole was fascinating and well thought out Trust is built very quickly between these two as is attraction There s a small amount of steam with one scene and references to a couple others but most interactions are them learning about each other and the other s life world Sarah s dad is also a great side character who s supportive and loving Both humans embrace an alien among them surprisingly easily though The plan to repair the ship Rei arrived in was also unrealistic to me with the major differences between technology and abilities but this plan dragged on for a while. Metal wolf rev There are some suspenseful scenes involving the government clearly looking for whatever caused the crash while our characters sneak around to collect items but no sense of urgency until closer to the end of the story when true danger comes into play The book ends with a HFN but was kind of disappointing to me It seems like there s a possibility of seeing these two in other books in the series but I m not sure I also had a lot of questions about what was going to happen next for them and a specific character whose situation is also referred to in the brief epilogue which is h s father s POV This would have been a four star read for me if not for the ending leaving me feeling so incomplete Kindle Edition Couldn t Put it DownThis story goes to show humans aren t alone in this universe I really enjoyed this story and already downloaded the rest of the series available The writing was intelligent colorful and full of sci fi puns and references It put me in mind of Star Wars but with shifters And there was even a dragon Kindle Edition
